This past year I have been so busy with posting on the library’s page on facebook, and building the new site at Voluntown.gov, that I have badly neglected the library’s blog page. We have recently revamped the library’s circulation area with a  “new” desk (courtesy of Bridgeport Public Library), and a new storage unit for staff use. Then on the emergency end, the library had to close a few days in January due to a lack of heat, and most recently our newly installed main doors were damaged by the wind, and cannot be used at the moment, and the library basement flooded. Now, on to the events that are of interest to you…

Saturday Morning, after speaking with Christelle Lachapelle, and then Billy Roberts, Design Producer for Extreme Homemakeover at Voluntown for the Girard Family Extreme Makeover, I initiated an effort for an extreme community quilt for the Girard Family. I was given the go ahead by Mr. Roberts after being given a color scheme for a bedroom, and began meeting with interested women at the library. As of Tuesday night, the quilt top is complete. Photos available on my facebook – Deborah Fleet threadbee@sbcglobal.net.

Here is the link for the article in the Norwich Bulletin this morning: Exteme Community Quilt Project

Today, Terry Allard is laying out the quilt face, the fill, and the signed backing at the Voluntown Town Hall to baste the piece together so that we can begin and finish tying the quilt/coverlet Wednesday evening (tonight) when the library closes at 6 p.m. til ?

It’s not just the bunnies hopping this spring! Voluntown Public Library has a great slate of events for the community up ahead. Spring has sprung and there are some wonderful new features available at Voluntown Public Library. This past November, the library joined a DVD “swap” with other eastern Connecticut Libraries funded by $500 received from the Pachaug Grange. The setup fee was $250 and the yearly fee is $250. The library will have about 30 different DVD’s arrive monthly. That amounts to about 360 different movies available to loan for the year that takes a minimal of shelf space. This special collection of DVD’s loan out for one week at a time, $1 late fee per day, no renewals so lots of people can have the chance to watch these newer features. These movies have been flying off the shelf. Come take a look and check them out today. As always, movies that belong to Voluntown Library circulate for 2 weeks at a time and patrons can check out 4 VHS or DVD’s at a time, and if they have children, can check out 4 children’s movies as well

There is a whole new world to explore from the comfort of your home, or the library computer. Come and take a ride to Voluntown Library and learn how to surf the web, mousercise, and more. These short sessions in introductory computer skills are filling fast. Class size is limited to 4 participants, and will run as long as there is interest, so if you can’t make it to one class or it fills up, there will be other sessions. Class offerings include Mousercise; Safe Surfing; E-Mail How-To; and classes for more advanced users – Blogs and Del.icio.us Bookmarks, Flickr Photo, etc. The March schedule for computer help classes has been posted. They will be offered March 20 and by special arrangement with the librarian. Register for new beginning computer classes by calling 376-0485 or e-mailing vltnlib@yahoo.com or speak with the librarian to schedule a time. April class schedule TBA. Library Homepage

Be sure to look at the Library Event Page to see what is happening at the library!
