This past year I have been so busy with posting on the library’s page on facebook, and building the new site at Voluntown.gov, that I have badly neglected the library’s blog page. We have recently revamped the library’s circulation area with a  “new” desk (courtesy of Bridgeport Public Library), and a new storage unit for staff use. Then on the emergency end, the library had to close a few days in January due to a lack of heat, and most recently our newly installed main doors were damaged by the wind, and cannot be used at the moment, and the library basement flooded. Now, on to the events that are of interest to you…

Library Board of Trustees Meetings Thursdays March 10, April 8, May 13, June 10, 2010 @ 6 p.m.

Young Writer’s Group – Wednesday March 3, 2010 @ 5 p.m. For teens and young adults.

Nutty about Knitting, Crazy about Crochet   

 ~ Tuesdays March 30, and April 13, May 4, 2010 @ 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. Bring your needlework, and enjoy a social time of chat,and needlework. Future dates for 2010 to be discussed. This group enjoys creating gifts, as well as items to donate (such as blankets for the Project Linus). In January, feel free to bring your Linus blanket projects to work on.

Story Time – Story Time Tuesdays @ 10: 30 a.m. (Social time 10-10:30 a.m.) March 23, April 6, 2010. Ages 2 and up. Space limited to 12 children. Spring Story time begins April 27, May 11, May 25, and June 8, 2010.

“Laughter is the Breast Medicine” 6:30 p.m. Tuesday March 16, 2010. Eileen is a breast cancer survivor and an Awareness Advocate who mentors women dealing with health and physical issues associated with breast cancer and its aftermath. Throught her diagnoses and treatments for breast cancer, she discovered that Laughter is the Breast Medicine. Laughter helped her to heal her body and her mind. Call the library for information.

Writer’s Group, Wednesday, March 24, April 28, May 26, 2010 @ 7:15 p.m. Group meets the last Wednesday of the month at the Voluntown Public Library. Do you dabble in poetry? Do you journal, or are you working on a story? Interested I meeting other aspiring writers? Writers of all ages are welcome to attend.

Schulze, AIBD, Nationally certified in Building Design by NCBDC. Each identical session is limited to 30 attendees, please choose the time that best suits you. Mr. Schulze’s books will be available at the program for purchase.

• New DVD’s have arrived at Voluntown. The library joined a DVD “Swap” with other Eastern Connecticut Libraries, so mid-month the library receives a batch of about 30 new DVD’s. These circulate for one month only and the collection is comprised of a wide variety of titles, and genres including some for the younger viewers. This current group will be at the library through mid February.

• Writer’s Group – Do you dabble in poetry? Are your writing a journal, or the next great novel. Voluntown Writers’ Group meets Wednesday January 23, 2008 at 7:15 p.m. at Voluntown Public Library.

• Voluntown Public Library Winter Story Time. Tuesday Toddler Story Time is at 10 a.m. for two and three year olds, Preschool and Kindergarten Story Time is at 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons for children age three through Kindergarten. Story times will be held January 29, February 12, 26, and March 11 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Call Voluntown Library to register today

• The History, Lore, and Legacy of Civilian Conservation Corps Camps in Connecticut Tuesday January 29 at 7 p.m.

FEATURING Marty Podskoch author of Adirondack Fire Towers: Their History & Lore (Southern & Northern Districts), and Adirondack Stories: Historical Sketches. 2008 is the 75th anniversary of the founding of the CCC’s. There will be a slide presentation of the camps, and the author will also speak about his books

• Last Friday Philosophy Club will have its first meeting Friday January 25 at 1 p.m. to chat, discuss in a general open forum contemporary issues. The group will meet at 1 p.m. on the last Friday of the month
